Hello. And welcome to Eggonomics.
Eggonomics is the home of the Household Index ™, a friendly pricing tracker that follows what things actually cost and why your household budget never seems to stretch quite far enough.
You’ve probably noticed: the official inflation numbers say one thing. But the grocery checkout feels a little different.
Gas. Eggs. Coffee. Electricity. Insurance. Your mortgage. All the things you and I spend money on every day often tell a very different story than what you hear on the evening news.
That’s where Eggonomics and our friendly Household Index ™ comes in.
The Household Index ™ tracks the real cost of everyday life. Not an abstract basket of goods. The actual things landing in your grocery cart, your inbox and your driveway every single month.
No jargon. No hedging. Just a straightforward look at what’s going up, what’s finally cooling down, and what it means for your household budget. In plain English. With charts.
The Author
Eggonomics is written by me, Dr. Chris Dowsett.
Data scientist by day, social scientist by vocation. I have a doctorate focused on how people use data to make decisions. Which, it turns out, is pretty handy for decoding the inflation and pricing numbers nobody has time to read.
I’ve been lucky enough to work in Australia, the UK, Singapore and the US.
There are so many important, infuriating and occasionally hopeful things happening to the cost of everyday life. Eggonomics is where I dig into all of it.
I hope you like it. Please consider subscribing — it’s free and always will be! — to get the Household Index and new articles delivered straight to your inbox.
